The Bornean Orangutan is one of our closest relatives, a gentle forest giant with striking red fur and soulful eyes that mirror our own. Native to the rainforests of Borneo, this great ape is now listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List, with populations plummeting due to deforestation, palm oil plantations, and hunting. Orangutans spend most of their lives in the trees, building nightly nests and playing a vital role in dispersing seeds that keep their forests alive. This design captures their iconic presence in bold linocut style, with the conservation status highlighted to emphasize how close they are to vanishing. It’s a tribute to one of humanity’s closest kin—and a call to protect the rainforests they call home.
