The Tasmanian Bettong, also known as the eastern bettong, is a small nocturnal marsupial once widespread across southeastern Australia but now found only in Tasmania. About the size of a rabbit, it uses its strong hind legs to hop through woodlands at night in search of fungi, which play a crucial role in keeping forests healthy. Despite its adaptability, the species is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List, with habitat loss and predation from introduced species continuing to pose risks. This design captures the bettong’s delicate form in bold linocut style, with the conservation status highlighted to remind us that even the smallest marsupials need protection. It’s both a tribute to Tasmania’s hidden wildlife and a call to ensure their survival.
